Top four clash: Aston Villa vs Chelsea
Chelsea Football Newsletter
Chelsea travel to Aston Villa today looking to regain their footing in the hunt for a Champions League place.
The Blues have been dealt numerous blows in recent weeks, being held to draws by Leeds United and Burnley before suffering a 2-1 defeat by Arsenal last time out.
Liam Rosenior’s men played well at the Emirates Stadium, but ultimately ill-disicipline cost them, with Pedro Neto earning the club’s tenth red card of the campaign.
They were also unfortunate with VAR, with the home side escaping a penalty decision against Declan Rice for what appeared to be a handball from a Reece James corner, as the Arsenal midfielder tussled and grabbed at Jorrel Hato at the near post.
Villa, meanwhile, have also stumbled in their bid to finish in the top four.
Their recent poor run of form has seen Manchester United catch them, with Michael Carrick’s men leapfrogging the Villans into third after their weekend victory over Crystal Palace.
Villa were beaten 2-0 by bottom club Wolves last time out, and Unai Emery’s side have won just one of their last five league matches.
