Everton have now moved to within one point of the Conference League spot, and Tarkowski actually sent an indirect message to the current occupants Brentford after the game.

“We are in touching distance to the European places,” the Toffees defender stated.

“There are nine matches to go, so we will stick some wins on the board and see where we end up. We are chasing them rather than looking below.”

Brentford were held to a goalless draw by Bournemouth this evening, so Tarkowski is making them well aware that they’re hunting their place heading into the business end of the season.

The pressure is being ramped up on the Bees, as the gap has been cut down by two points this evening.

James Tarkowski admits he should score more after Burnley win

That was Tarkowski’s first goal of the season, which is actually quite surprising considering he’s netted 21 times throughout his career.

Speaking post-match, the 33-year-old admitted that he should score a lot more.

“I don’t score enough. I am pleased with that and pleased to get a win here.

“Our away form has been incredible but we haven’t got enough points here. We have let ourselves down in some games here and conceded some rubbish goals and not taken our chances.

“Two goals and a clean sheet today, so we can’t be happier.”

Everton now have an 11-day wait until their next game, which is at the Emirates against league leaders Arsenal.

So it was really crucial they got three points on the board in this one, as it’s kept their European dreams alive.
