Tensions flared at Molineux on Tuesday evening as Liverpool and Wolves players became embroiled in a heated confrontation involving Hugo Ekitike.
The flashpoint occurred when Wolves defender Santiago Bueno hauled back Ekitike in a bid to halt a counter-attack. As Bueno remained grounded, the Liverpool forward loomed over his opponent, prompting Wolves players to rush in and confront Ekitike.
Liverpool's squad, led by skipper Virgil van Dijk, quickly rallied to support their colleague.
Order was eventually restored, with Liverpool awarded a free kick and Bueno shown a yellow card. The match stood at 1-1 following goals from Wolves' Rodrigo Gomes and Mohamed Salah, who ended a four-month Premier League drought.
Though Salah's strike brought Liverpool level, the hosts ultimately prevailed. Andre's 94th-minute winner delivered three crucial points for bottom-of-the-table Wolves.
"I think it's down to ourselves," Van Dijk told TNT Sports when reflecting on Tuesday's game. "It was slow, we were predictable, sloppy in possession and wrong decision-making.
"We didn't concede chances, but if you perform like that, then a result like this can be a result of that, and that's a fact. It was disappointing."
Manager Arne Slot also addressed TNT Sports following the final whistle, stating: "Bad result, far from good first half, better second half.
"Second half, there was a bit more urgency, getting closer and closer to scoring a goal, then conceding with the first moment they arrived around our box.
"We immediately struck back, first off the post, then with Mo, then we were twice close to making a winner. In the end, we conceded a deflected shot, which was not even a chance.
"We hardly conceded a chance, created not so much but more than they did, but the result is again a 2-1 loss.
"We are losing far too many football games and dropping points.
"Was it again in extra time that we conceded? The three times we lost in the last 22 games were all three in extra time."
The outcome sees Liverpool sitting fifth in the Premier League standings, trailing both third-placed Manchester United and fourth-placed Aston Villa by three points, whilst holding a three-point advantage over sixth-placed Chelsea. All three sides are in action on Wednesday.
For Wolves, it marks consecutive victories. Rob Edwards' squad now sit on 16 points, 11 points adrift of safety with eight fixtures left to play.
