**Liverpool may well look to sack Arne Slot in the near future after their 2-1 defeat to Wolves, according to former Reds defender Stephen Warnock.**
The Premier League champions were woeful at Molineux on Tuesday evening, losing in stoppage time yet again and denting their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
It has thrown fresh doubt over Slot’s future as Liverpool’s head coach, with the Dutchman battling to save his job throughout this season, following a drastic dropoff from last term.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live on Tuesday \[via [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/i-wouldnt-be-surprised-arne-slot-sack-verdict-emerges-as-liverpool-stunned-by-wolves/)\], Warnock claimed that he could see FSG making a change in the dugout at some point this year:
_“Liverpool are nowhere near where they would like to be. When you think about reigning champions and the title defence, it’s not gone to plan at all._
_“There is a lot of talk about Arne Slot and what possibly might happen at the end of the season, and I think if he doesn’t get Champions League football, I wouldn’t be surprised if the club made a change.”_
**Is it time for Liverpool and Arne Slot to part ways?**

It really does feel as though a change is needed at Liverpool, sooner rather than later, even though Slot has overseen some improved results of late, and won the title last season.
A terrible performance and result never feels too far away, though, and the number of last-gasp results conceded in 2025/26 all point towards a lack of fitness and mentality.
Everything feels stale, even though Slot isn’t yet two years into his reign, and while he is far from the only issue – key players such as Alexis Mac Allistser and Mohamed Salah are shadows of their former selves, among others – the buck stops with the manager.
It still feels unlikely that FSG will sack Slot before the end of the season, unless Liverpool’s form is so bad that a top-five finish is in genuine jeopardy, but a new boss needs to be brought in when the summer arrives.
Who that is remains to be seen – Xabi Alonso has been mentioned more than anyone, and is out of work – but a new era is required if the Reds are to kick on into the future.
