David Moyes singled out Dwight McNeil for praise following Everton’s 2-0 win over Burnley.
McNeil was standout man on the night as Everton secured all three points at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. His stellar performance was recognised by the fanbase, with McNeil winning the Grand Old Team forum’s Man of the Match award by a landslide. He secured 43.1% of the vote, earning more than double the backing of runner-up Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who finished with 20%.
Former Burnley players made a impact for the Blues across the pitch. James Tarkowski led the charge by scoring the vital opening goal against his old club, while Michael Keane was introduced late in the game to help the defence see out a well-earned clean sheet.
However, it was McNeil who drew the highest praise from his manager after giving Lucas Pires and the rest of the Burnley backline a completely torrid evening.
Speaking after the match, Moyes was thrilled to see the winger finding his best form.
“Dwight did great and I’m really pleased for him because he’s probably had a tough time with all the different things going on [the failed January move to Crystal Palace],” the Everton boss said.
“I think the difference tonight in Dwight, I think it was very noticeable in his other performances. His other performances were never at the level that he played tonight, so he played much, much better and I’ve been saying he’s training better and he’s getting more confidence.
“They nearly gave him a standing ovation coming off, so that tells me that everybody in the house is watching him and they all thought he played well and he did. He’s done a great job.”
