It was a great performance from the Toffees, who finally got back to winning ways at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Having not won there since the start of December, it was vital for Everton to dispatch Burnley given the struggles of Scott Parker’s men.

And it was a good, solid performance from the hosts, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall again being impactful.

And after the game, the midfielder spoke about the recent tactic of hoofing the ball up into the sky from kick-off.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall explains new Everton kick-off tactic

In recent games, fans have noticed Everton taking their kick-off at the start of games, or from half-time, in a new way.

After the game, this new tactic was put to Dewsbury-Hall, who said on TNT Sports: “You know what? I think was it Bournemouth or Brentford (who) did it a couple of weeks ago and it was quite good, and we’ve actually done it the last couple of games.

“You (speaking to Joleon Lescott) know as a defender, that’s hard to defend.

“Get yourself on the front foot! It’s probably not the first thing I would have chosen to do as a player but I mean, whatever the gaffer says!”

Everton tactic should be welcomed

Neutrals will have their opinions about this particular tactic, but the intentions behind it seem positive.

Hoisting the ball up like this and have a couple of players charging in right from the off is something that could unsettle a backline if it’s not properly prepared.

Everton have height in their team, so there’s a reasonable chance that either Beto or Thierno Barry will do something with that ball dropping out of the sky.

It is certainly an avenue worth exploring.
