The heartbreak Liverpool players endured after their shock 2-1 defeat to Wolves was compounded by comments from Everton's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The reigning Premier League champions succumbed to the league's bottom side who earned just their third win of the season.

After going 1-0 down in the 78th minute through Rodrigo Gomes' tidy finish past Alisson Becker, the comeback was on for the Reds with Mohamed Salah scoring his first goal in 11 league games to level the scoring.

However, Andre's deflected shot in the 94th minute left Alisson in no man's land, condemning Arne Slot's side to a fifth injury-time defeat in the 25/26 campaign. After failing to seize the opportunity to move into an automatic Champions League qualification place, the Reds are once again ruing another dismal performance and result.

As if the showing at the Molineux wasn't hard enough to take, Everton earned a 2-0 against Burnley at Hill Dickinson Stadium but it was the pitch-side interview with Dewsbury-Hall after the game that really exacerbated Liverpool's hurt.

Speaking to Jules Breach, Fara Williams and Joleon Lescott, the midfielder, 27, was discussing the performance, in which he scored his sixth goal of the season, before celebrations of Everton fans in the concourse could be heard.

Breach then informed Dewsbury-Hall that the roars were due to Wolves netting their last-minute winner with the smiling Toffees star saying: "That's even better." The Reds remain fifth in the table as Slot admitted after the game that he expected more from his side who now face a real fight to end the season on a strong note.

The Dutchman said: "My expectations haven’t changed throughout the season because I expected more than we are fighting for now. It’s another setback and we didn’t help ourselves with this result, not at all. But there are still nine games to play.

"We are coming closer and closer to the end. Dropping points in a game where it’s absolutely not necessary. If you look at the run of play, I’m not saying we played great, but if we play this game in this fashion 10 times we don’t lose 10 times."

Slot insisted his side created enough to collect all three points but admitted the team simply haven't been good enough. He added: "It’s far from sure that we win every time, therefore we are not good enough. If we don’t have to rely on a deflected shot, we have to play better and do better. But we’ve had enough chances to win the game."
