Filipe Luis' shock sacking at Flamengo came after the club's bosses learnt that he'd held talks with Chelsea's ownership.

The Brazilian, who played at the Blues for a brief period, has quickly taken to management and performed wonders in his homeland, but that didn't save him from a shock dismissal. He led Flamengo to seven trophies after replacing former Brazil head coach Tite in September 2024.

Recently he saw his side secure an 8-0 win against Madureira to reach the final of the Carioca, where they will face Fluminense, but Luis won't be the man in charge after receiving his marching orders.

Flamengo president, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, also referred to as Bap, sacked Luis in the early hours of Tuesday morning following the game after it emerged that he had reportedly held talks with Chelsea without them knowing.

UOL Esporte claim that the breakdown in relationship between Luis and Baptista was down to his discussions with Chelsea’s BlueCo ownership, who had held talks over a move to Strasbourg, another club in their portfolio.

Luis' impressive record wasn't enough to save him with reports in Brazil claiming that the Flamengo president felt 'deceived' and 'the relationship, which already had cracks, became even more turbulent'.

The ex-Chelsea and Atletico Madrid defender has built an impressive body of work for himself, which is likely to see him as a man in demand. The Blues have recently changed managers having axed Enzo Maresca on New Year's Day with issues internally thought to be a motivating factor. They hired Liam Rosenior, who had performed impressively at Strasbourg, to replace the Italian despite his lack of experience in the top flight.

Chelsea's current ownership have gone through a number of managers since their takeover. They inherited Thomas Tuchel but within months he was gone and Graham Potter was bought in as his replacement, but the ex-Brighton boss failed to last the season.

Mauricio Pochettino was only given a year after he was appointed with Maresca's work at Leicester seeing him back as the Argentine's replacement. Maresca himself last 18 months, meaning in the last four years BlueCo have worked with five different managers.
