WOLVES FANS TALK: WOLVES 2 LIVERPOOL 1
EMMA
Under the lights at Molineux, that was one of those nights you remember.
Not pretty. Not loaded with chances. But full of grit, patience, and that feeling that we were not going to be pushed around by anyone, even the champions.
The first half was all about staying in it. Liverpool had the ball, they tried to turn the screw, but we held our shape and stayed switched on. Jose Sa did what he does, calm when it mattered, and the back line put bodies in the way. It was scrappy, tense, and honestly it felt like one goal would decide it.
Then the second half turned into chaos in the best way.
We had barely offered anything going forward, and then suddenly, bang, one moment of quality and we are ahead. Tolu Arokodare comes on and makes a difference straight away, holds it up brilliantly, slips Rodrigo Gomes in, and Rodrigo does the hard bit with that lovely lift over Alisson. First shot of the game. One nil Wolves. Proper smash and grab stuff, but you still have to take it.
Of course it could never be that simple. We even had that huge Sa save to tip one onto the post, and you think maybe it is our night… then Salah pounces and makes it 1-1. Classic Liverpool. Any mistake, they punish you.
But the best part was the response.
We did not fold. We did not settle for a point. We went again, and in the fourth minute of injury time, Andre hits one from range, it takes a deflection, and the place absolutely erupts. Limbs everywhere. One of those goals that feels like the whole ground willed it in.
A massive win. Back-to-back wins. Three points off Liverpool. Under the lights. At home. That is Molineux.
And to the Everton fans…
You’re welcome.

Last night Wolves bottom of the league, 14 points from safety, the champions in town.
Rodrigo Gomes lifts the place. Salah silences it.
And then 94th minute, Andre hits it. Deflection. Net. Bedlam, Limbs everywhere.
Wolves bottom of the table and still swinging.
Remember that song “The Impossible Dream” 🐺🤔

I wrote this at 7:30, when I saw the team sheet, and I honestly thought it was three points to Liverpool.
Rob Edwards made four changes and it looked suicidal. But a pack of hungry Wolves snarled at Liverpool’s heels for 96 minutes.
The first half was simple: get the tackles in, look for breakaways, and do not concede. After Wolves v Villa, you could be forgiven for worrying it might go the same way. It did not.
Edwards freshened things up in the second half, and the subs changed the game.
On 78 minutes, two of them combined to put Wolves ahead. Arokodare bullied Van Dijk and won the ball, then played an inch-perfect pass for Rodrigo Gomes to gallop onto. It looked like he had pushed it too far, but in a three-way chase with Alisson and Gomez, it was Rodrigo who got there first and lifted the ball over Alisson into the corner.
Cue pandemonium. Molineux erupted, and Liverpool looked dazed. This was not the script. They came for three points.
Could Wolves cause a second upset in a week?
Liverpool poured forward with attack after attack, but it was a misplaced pass from Bellegarde that gifted the ball to Salah. He drove it low towards the corner, and Sa could only palm it into the net. Liverpool were out of jail, and then they came at us again looking for a winner.
Sa then made a world-class save, full stretch, fingertips to the ball, pushing it onto the post and away.
The last 10 minutes felt like a 15-round boxing match. Punch for punch, Wolves giving as good as they got.
Then, on 94 minutes, Andre drove to the edge of the box and hit a shot that clipped a Liverpool player, wrong-footed Alisson, and looped into the net.
Wolves were back in front and Molineux erupted all over again.
Could we keep Liverpool out for the final minutes? Two added minutes became four because of the celebrations, but we dug in and saw it out.
Next up is Liverpool again on Friday in the FA Cup. Yes, Wolves can beat them again.
This team has found a new steel: tighter in defence, and that never-say-die attitude.
Bring it on, Liverpool. The Wolves are ready.
A very happy Wolf.
We can again forget the first half.
What a second half!! The substitutes changed everything. I don’t know what they’re giving the players at half time but whatever it is they need to keep it up. The fight is back and there’s no stopping them. Let’s get ready for Wembley.

What can we say about this game of football from our team against a strong Liverpool side?
In the first half, we did a job on them. We kept them out with lots of defensive work, putting our bodies on the line, making blocks, and limiting them to long-range efforts. Jose Sa produced some fine saves.
We also had our moments, even though we did not properly test Alisson with shots or clear chances. Tchatchoua carried his form from the previous game into this one and showed his full potential. Along with Joao Gomes, he was excellent. Joao Gomes was so fluent in midfield, you could find him in every part of the pitch. We saw out the half with half the job done.
The second half started more of the same, with Wolves keeping Liverpool out. We needed substitutions to freshen the team, and Rob Edwards made them at the right time. It was pleasing to see who he brought on, as we pushed for a point, or maybe even all three.
We went into the final 15 minutes, including injury time, and Rodrigo Gomes came off the bench to put us ahead. It felt deserved, and I was delighted. Credit where it is due, we needed that moment.
But we had an issue after that, as we did not hold onto the lead. Bellegarde made a mistake and allowed Salah to score, and suddenly we were back to square one. I worried we were in for a defeat, but we kept playing.
Then we did what we have started to do at home: score late. For the third home game in a row, we found a late goal. Andre got his first goal for the club after clever work from Tchatchoua, who teed it up for him. I was delighted to see it go in, and to see us win. Where has this run of wins suddenly come from?
Rob has the team playing the way he wants. It has taken time, but it is finally showing. Now we have to keep it going. We have closed the gap to Burnley to three points. We must keep pushing, get more points, and salvage our season. Keep the faith.
One incredibly happy Wolves fan, seeing a team win.

What a game. A result and a half.
Match thoughts: What on earth has happened to this team? We really do love a big win against the champions.
Rob Edwards: He picked a strong lineup, and when the game needed changes, the subs made the difference. He got it spot on. I love this man.
Man of the match: It has to be Andre. What a way to score your first goal. We love this man.
Match performance: 7/10. I am still waiting for that clean sheet for a 10, but 7 feels fair.
Moment that made me smile: That last-minute winner. Pure joy. Very happy.
