Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian has revealed the reasoning behind his decision to snub Premier League giants Manchester United in favour of a move to Chelsea.
The Brazilian teenager, widely regarded as one of South America’s brightest attacking prospects, confirmed that CHELSEA’s long-term vision and clear development plan proved decisive in his choice. United had been strongly linked with the winger and were believed to have held exploratory talks, but Estevao ultimately opted for Stamford Bridge as the next step in his career.
Speaking about the transfer, Estevao explained that conversations with Chelsea’s recruitment staff and coaching team gave him confidence that west London was the right environment to fulfil his potential.
Estevao explained to The Sun: “My family went to other clubs, but what caught my attention was Chelsea. The project with Chelsea was different because it’s a team that, how can I say, gives you more opportunities to be in the game.
‘I thought Chelsea would be the perfect future for me because it would get me more minutes. I want to be amongst the best players in the world. I know my potential and what I can offer to Chelsea and, of course, to be amongst the best players in the world.”
Regarding the figure who inspires his style of play, he briefly asserted: “Neymar. You’ll see if I can achieve that [level].”
CHELSEA moved quickly to secure the forward’s signature amid growing European interest, underlining their continued strategy of investing in elite youth prospects from around the world.
The Blues’ recent focus on assembling one of the youngest squads in the Premier League is understood to have resonated with Estevao and his representatives.
Manchester United’s interest was long-standing, with scouts monitoring his progress in Brazil over the past two seasons. However, the player made it clear that sporting ambition and stylistic fit were central to his final decision.
Estevao’s arrival is seen as another statement of intent from Chelsea’s recruitment team as they look to build a squad capable of competing for major honours in the coming years.
