Arsenal are now plotting a devastating raid to sign an "outstanding" Wolverhampton Wanderers star, who the Old Gold are desperate to keep.
Gunners eyeing Wolves star ahead of Brighton clash
The Gunners' Premier League title charge continues this evening, when they travel to the American Express Stadium to take on Brighton, while Manchester City take on a struggling Nottingham Forest side at home.
Mikel Arteta's side will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce, after defeating Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby, before going on to beat London rivals Chelsea, with both of their goals in the 2-1 victory coming from set-pieces.
There has been widespread debate about the north Londoners' reliance on set-pieces, but Arteta clearly doesn't care one jot, with his side setting the pace at the top of the Premier League table.
Arsenal are competing on all fronts, with a quadruple still on the cards, but they also have one eye on the summer transfer window, and they are now plotting a devastating raid to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Mateus Mane.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, which states Wolves are desperate to keep hold of the attacking midfielder, who is currently tied down until 2029, and they are preparing to hold talks regarding a contract extension.
Wolverhampton Wanderers' Mateus Mane shoots at goal
Despite the fact the Old Gold are almost certain to be relegated to the Championship, they believe they can keep hold of Mane, with one source adding: "There’s a real belief here that we can persuade Mateus to stay. The promise of regular first-team football is a huge factor, and he knows how highly he’s valued at Wolves. Even if the worst happens, we’re confident he’ll see his future here."
However, a whole host of the Premier League's top clubs are plotting moves for the 18-year-old, alongside Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
"Outstanding" Mane could be exciting long-term signing
Alan Shearer lauded the teenager earlier this season, praising him for the "absolutely outstanding" role he played in Wolves' 3-0 victory against West Ham United earlier this season.
Although he is still very young, the starlet has established himself as a regular starter for Wolves, making 19 appearances this season, during which time he's displayed his versatility by featuring in central midfield, attacking midfield and at centre-forward.
The Old Gold star has picked up two goals and two assists in the Premier League, and broke a record in the process.
Mane could be an exciting long-term signing for Arsenal, and they should look to capitalise on Wolves' near-certain relegation by launching a move.
