Opinion: I saw a very underrated Jordan Pickford moment vs Burnley - it came way before his…

Jordan Pickford produced another fine save late on for Everton in the win over Burnley – but there was something else he did that is going under the radar.

Everton finally ended their winless run at Hill Dickinson Stadium, beating the Clarets 2-0.

While Everton were expected to win the game, there was obviously pressure given the discourse about the Toffees’ home form.

What impressed you most about that win against Burnley? 👏

But it was a good performance overall, even if Burnley didn’t threaten all too often.

That said though, there were a couple of dicey moments.

Jordan Pickford made a great save right at the end to preserve the clean sheet, which will rightly earn him more praise.

But Pickford bailing out Vitalii Mykolenko is something that shouldn’t be overlooked.

A quiet night for Jordan Pickford, but he still saved Everton’s bacon against Burnley

In the 55th minute, when Everton were only 1-0 up, Burnley almost couldn’t believe their luck when Mykolenko overcooked his back pass to Pickford.

The full-back was a fair distance away from his goalkeeper and so, he needed to put a bit of power into it.

But playing the ball first-time caused him to get lift on the ball.

I watched that ball fizz towards Pickford’s goal, with a Burnley player charging it down looking to help it on its way.

Had it not been for Pickford being alert to the danger and scampering back into position so quickly, the ball would have been gathered by the Burnley player to surely score, or it may even have gone straight in.

He did really well to get a good connection on the clearance too, being on his weaker foot around shin height.

It was a testament to Pickford’s focus. He had barely had anything to do in the game up until that point. If that goes in, it’s a completely different game and Everton may have ended up dropping points.

Even when he’s not making world-class saves, Pickford is still so important for this team.

Pickford amongst the world’s best

Pickford has had an outstanding season, and it isn’t his first for Everton.

He’s won Everton’s Player of the Season three times before, and is in contention to win a fourth given how he’s been playing in 2025/26.

Should Jordan Pickford now be considered one of the world’s best goalkeepers? 🤔

Gary Lineker is adamant he should 👀

Gary Lineker gave Pickford his flowers earlier this week, talking up his consistency and how he should be considered as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

At this point, it’s really hard to disagree with that.

The man is such a pillar of consistency and without his contributions, the club would have been in a world of trouble.
