Mikel Arteta finds perfect Gyokeres replacement as Arsenal moves to sign Italian giant

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito this summer, amid speculation that manager Mikel Arteta wants to bolster his attacking options for the Premier League and European campaigns.

The Italian forward has emerged as one of Serie A’s most intriguing young talents, prompting Arsenal to explore whether he could complement or even eventually supplant current first-choice striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Esposito, a product of Inter Milan’s famed youth academy, has gradually broken into first-team football, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this season.

His physical presence — standing around 1.91 m — combined with aerial ability and tactical intelligence has drawn praise from Serie A coaches and scouts alike. He also boasts a growing reputation for linking play and engaging centre-backs — traits that reportedly fascinated Arteta during Arsenal’s recent Champions League clash with Inter, where the Italian came off the bench and caused problems for the Gunners’ defence.

At ARSENAL, Gyokeres arrived last summer amid much fanfare after a prolific spell in Portugal with Sporting CP. However, the Sweden international has had an inconsistent debut season in north London, with fans and pundits alike debating his effectiveness in front of goal.

While Gyokeres has shown flashes of quality, he has struggled at times to replicate his earlier scoring form in England’s top flight, leading to speculation that Arsenal could still seek additional firepower.

Would Esposito Be a Better Option Than Gyokeres?

Esposito offers a slightly different profile to Gyokeres. The Italian combines size with technical competence and has shown an ability to contribute not just in finishing but in build-up play — averaging promising attacking metrics over limited minutes in Serie A.

Early scouting reports suggest he wins more duels and creates as many chances per 90 minutes as his Swedish counterpart, despite playing significantly fewer minutes this season.

Gyokeres, on the other hand, remains a more established presence in the Premier League with valuable top-level experience, but has sometimes lacked end product in a team chasing major honours. His movement and link-up play have been praised, yet his goal return has left supporters wanting more.

However, it’s important to note that Esposito is still young and has not yet faced the sustained physical and tactical rigours of the Premier League. The English game is notoriously demanding, and even highly rated talents can take time to adapt.

Should ARSENAL pursue Esposito, it would represent a strategic investment in future attacking depth — but not necessarily an immediate upgrade over Gyokeres without careful integration and development plans.
