Jayden Danns hands Liverpool major boost as training return explained

Jayden Danns is set to return to full training this week in a big boost to Liverpool’s attacking options, having been sidelined for over five months.

Danns has been out of action since tearing his hamstring taking a free-kick for Liverpool U21s in a 3-2 loss to Ipswich on September 27.

It has been a lengthy road to recovery for the striker who suffered a number of setbacks and has taken every precaution to benefit his long-term fitness.

But now he has been cleared to rejoin full training, which is expected to start with the U21s but with a strong chance of returning to the first-team setup.

Speaking to The Redmen TV‘s Dan Clubbe after a 4-2 win over Tottenham at the weekend, U21s head coach Rob Page explained: “Dannsy is looking good. Back in training next week. So that’s good for him.”

The 20-year-old was already pictured in non-contact work as part of the academy session at the AXA Training Centre last week.

He joined James McConnell, new centre-back signing Mor Talla Ndiaye and midfielder Ben Trueman to work with fitness rehab coach Jordan Hunter separate from the rest of the group.

When will Mor Talla Ndiaye make his Liverpool debut?

All four players are now slated to resume full training and Page expects Ndiaye to make his U21s debut in the coming weeks.

“He should feature before the end of the season, which is quite exciting,” he said of the 18-year-old, as Liverpool prepare for their three games of the normal Premier League 2 campaign this month.

“We signed him, and then we found a little problem, so we’ve had to put him off for six weeks or so.

“So he’ll be with us for the first couple of weeks, and then see how he goes.”

McConnell has already rejoined the senior squad at the AXA and could be an option for Arne Slot‘s midfield when cleared to make his return to match action.

The same could be applied to Danns, who was involved at the beginning of the season including a cameo against Southampton in the Carabao Cup win in September.

Slot has already noted the unfortunate timing of Danns’ injury as, with Alexander Isak out, he feels the academy striker could have provided much-needed cover for Hugo Ekitike.

That may still be the case, though Friday’s FA Cup fifth-round clash with Wolves is likely to come too soon for Danns.
