What sources are now saying about Paul Winstanley leaving Chelsea for Tottenham

Chelsea’s arch-rivals Tottenham are targeting a new sporting director, and Blues chief Paul Winstanley has emerged as a possible candidate.

There are currently no assurances that Spurs will even be in the Premier League next season. Their fortunes are not bright, even after signing Conor Gallagher on a £200k-a-week contract.

It looks as if there are set to be more changes at the helm in North London whatever happens this season, with them already undergoing a number of changes following Daniel Levy’s departure.

Paul Winstanley has no interest in leaving Chelsea to join Tottenham

Despite ambitions to bring in one of Chelsea’s key members of staff, journalist Ben Jacobs has stated that Winstanley has no ambition to leave Stamford Bridge, and has instead recently agreed a new contract with the club.

He said to GiveMeSport: “Candidates to replace Fabio Paratici are Paul Winstanley at Chelsea. Chelsea sources and those close to Winstanley insist he’s got no interest in leaving and recently signed improved terms.”

Winstanley works alongside Lawrence Stewart as the sporting directors under Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, and the duo have constantly outlasted managers at Stamford Bridge.

Their work has been recognised with a nomination for the best sporting director award, although their reputation is not as strong with unhappy Chelsea fans.

Frequently the Blues have ruled themselves out of signing big names who would immediately raise the quality of the squad. Victor Osimhen, Michael Olise and Antoine Semenyo have all slipped through the net.

Instead, the club have opted for opportunistic deals such as Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap, although the sporting directors seem to not be held to account for these not working out.

There look to be no plans in West London to replace Winstanley and Stewart, although Chelsea are going to need to deliver better results from the upcoming transfer window to start to get some of those unhappy fans back on board.
