Nico Schlotterbeck is shaping up to be one of the most talked‑about centre-backs in Europe ahead of the summer window, with both Liverpool and Real Madrid closely tracking his situation.

The 26‑year‑old has been a rare beacon of consistency in a Borussia Dortmund side that has again flattered to deceive domestically and suffered a shock early exit from the Champions League.

After another season where BVB are unable to lay a serious glove o at the top of the Bundesliga, Schlotterbeck is naturally being linked with a step up to a club that regularly competes for the biggest trophies.

According to detailed reporting from German outlet BILD, the picture around his future should become much clearer very soon.

Dortmund and Schlotterbeck’s camp are understood to be working towards a firm decision by the middle of March, effectively setting an internal deadline before the international break and the final stretch of the season.

Rather than letting speculation drag on into late spring, all parties want clarity: either a commitment to stay and build the defence around him, or an acceptance that a summer transfer will be explored if a suitable offer arrives.

The club hierarchy are said to have held several rounds of talks with the defender and his representatives, discussing his role, ambitions and where he fits in any potential rebuild after this disappointing campaign. The expectation is that, once those conversations conclude over the next couple of weeks, Schlotterbeck will communicate his stance and Dortmund will then inform interested clubs of their position.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano already confirmed that Real Madrid have been monitoring Schlotterbeck and could look to likewise make a move in the summer transfer window.
