The Pittsburgh Steelers clearly think quarterback Aaron Rodgers will return for the 2026-27 season, but without him having signed on the dotted line yet, anything could happen.
Word on the street is that Rodgers wants to make sure one thing is set before he steps foot on the field for the Steelers again.
During an appearance on his “Kaboly + Mack Podcast”, NFL insider Mark Kaboly said that Rodgers won’t come back to the Steelers in 2026 if they don’t bring in a solid set of wide receivers. He said that he thinks Rodgers is waiting to see the wide receiver room before making his decision.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s like, ‘Hey, let me see what you’re gonna do here,'” he said. “Because I’m not coming back, all due respect to his buddy (Ben) Skowronek, but with Roman Wilson and Skowronek, and that’s about it.”
Drafting a promising wide receiver who’s ready to hit the ground running would go a long way for the Steelers.
In a Tuesday, March 3 feature for USA Today, Ayrton Ostly rattles off his predictions for NFL trade moves. He sees wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. of the Indianapolis Colts going to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“For Pittsburgh, the offense could use more weapons on the outside beyond D.K. Metcalf,” he notes in the feature. “He’s a vertical threat thanks to his speed and Pittman would bring another physical skillset to the offense. The Steelers have a dozen picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including a projected five combined selections in Round 3 and Round 4.”
He adds, “If they’re willing to take on most of his salary, Indianapolis could get one of those selections back in a deal that may be worthwhile for both teams.”
So, if the Steelers want to retain Rodgers for another run, which it appears they obviously do, they’re going to have to do their part by getting a promising wide receiver room, whether that’s through the NFL draft, free agency or both.
