East team explored Kawhi Leonard trade talks before deadline

The Sixers were reportedly exploring trades for stars like Kawhi Leonard before the deadline, but nothing materialized, according to Kevin O'Connor.

Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey was reportedly star hunting ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, with two-time NBA champion and seven-time All-Star Kawhi Leonard emerging as a potential target.

"Executives have said that the Sixers were actively making calls pre-deadline, though nothing seemed remotely close. Some sources suggest that Morey was star hunting with Kawhi Leonard being a name that was connected to Philly. But nothing happened," Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports reported.

Leonard, 34, is a Los Angeles native and has been with the LA Clippers since 2019.

He has also been loosely linked to the Los Angeles Lakers amid the Aspiration scandal. However, for now, the speculation appears to be little more than noise.

Given the rivalry between the two franchises – and the reported tension between their ownership groups – the Clippers may be reluctant to send Leonard across the hallway to the purple and gold in the offseason.
