Bears 'team to watch' in trade for 69.5 sack Pro Bowl pass rusher

The Chicago Bears have a major need to address along the defensive line. While Montez Sweat is good, the Bears must add more help to the edge rusher position.

They could go after a rookie in the 2026 NFL Draft or make a splash free agent signing. But, the most exciting move would be a blockbuster trade for a 69.5 sack pass rusher.

And according to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, the Bears are a "team to watch" in the trade market for superstar pass rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Bears 'team to watch' in Maxx Crosby trade rumors

"Multiple sources indicate the Chicago Bears are a team to watch in potentially dealing for Crosby," Jones reports. "The bears aren't the only team with interest in Crosby - the Dallas Cowboys are lurking, according to sources - but they could be best positioned to do a deal if one can be done."

This is a very exciting report for Bears fans from Jones. After seeing their 27-year-old Pro Bowl center surprisingly retire on Tuesday, hearing this Wednesday's report that they're the top team involved in Crosby rumors is a good sign.

Crosby is a 28-year-old veteran pass rusher who's recored 69.5 sacks in his NFL career, and is a five-time Pro Bowler since his rookie season in 2019.

More: Maxx Crosby continues to be strongly linked to Bears

He had 10 sacks last season, and four total years in double-digits. He's also more than just a sack artist, as he has 133 tackles for loss in his career, including 28 this past season, and 90 in the last four years.

Last offseason, he signed a three-year extension worth $106.5 million. He's under contract through 2029, with cap hits of $35.7 million in 2026, $29.7 million in 2027, and then $27.2 and $28.2 in 2028 and 2029, respectively.

He won't be a cheap trade pickup for the Bears, but with the need for pass rush help being as big as it is for the Bears, Crosby is a worthwhile trade target.

This report from Jones indicates that the Bears are a team to watch for Crosby, and while there might be other interested teams, there might not be a better suitor than the Bears.
