Packers re-sign 26-year-old running back to $4.85 million contract

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed one of their pending free agent running backs.

According to his agents, running back Chris Brooks has agreed to a two-year, $4.85 million deal with the Packers. This keeps Brooks from becoming a restricted free agent when the new league year hits on March 11.

"Running back Chris Brooks and the Packers have agreed to terms on a 2 year deal worth $4.85m," One West Sports Group revealed.

A former undrafted free-agent signing of the Miami Dolphins in 2023, Brooks has spent the past two seasons in Green Bay, serving as a depth piece.

In that span, Brooks has tallied 82 carries for 395 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and five rushing touchdowns to go along with 24 receptions for 160 yards.

The Packers had a clear need for more depth at running back entering the offseason, and that need was made more dire by the fact that Green Bay did not tender Emanuel Wilson, who is now an unrestricted free agent.

Assuming Green Bay doesn't intend on signing Wilson back, Brooks now stands to take on a larger role in a backfield that includes Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd, who remains unproven after two injury-plagued seasons in the NFL.

If Lloyd doesn't rebound in 2026, Brooks could end up being the Packers' RB2 behind Jacobs.
