The Kansas City Chiefs were, without a doubt, one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL last season. After appearing in three straight Super Bowls, and winning two of them, the Chiefs finished the 2025 NFL season 6-11. Star tight end Travis Kelce did not play up to his standard as a future Hall of Famer, furthering rumors that he may retire from the NFL.
What is more, all-world quarterback Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL late in the season. This means, of course, that he will not be healthy enough to start for the Chiefs when the 2026 NFL season begins.
Indeed, there are going to be serious changes coming to Kansas City. However, they want these changes to immediately return them to Super Bowl contention.
And their first blockbuster move is on the horizon.

According to multiple NFL insiders, the Chiefs are working on a deal that would send All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams. In return, Kansas City would receive a package that includes the 29th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft:

As seen in Ian Rapoport’s post, McDuffie is likely to get a long-term extension from the Rams as part of the deal.
Once the deal is completed, Kansas City will the ninth and 29th picks in the first round of this year’s draft. Such flexibility on Day One of the draft will allow them to address multiple needs.
