Liverpool are now preparing a move for a £65m central midfielder who's "like a young Gerrard", but there could be competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United...
Reds eyeing new midfielder after defeat at Molineux
The Reds' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League took a hit on Tuesday evening, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, and Arne Slot bemoaned his side's inability to take their opportunities.
Slot said: "Recently, we are picking up points because many times we’ve scored from set-pieces, but what did not change in the last five, six or seven games is that we struggle and find it very hard to score from the open-play chances that we do create.
"Not as many as I would like from all the ball possession we have, but enough and far more than the other team."
Slot's side created four big chances throughout the match, three more than the opposition, but they were squandered by Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk, while Rio Ngumoha was denied by the woodwork.
Mohamed Salah breaking his duck is one of the only positives the Merseysiders can take from the defeat, but they remain keen on signing a new forward this summer, with a Bayern Munich star of interest.
Not only are Liverpool looking to strengthen in attack, but they have also set their sights on a central midfielder, according to a report from Caught Offside, which states FSG are now preparing a move for Juventus star Khephren Thuram.

Arsenal and Man United are also credited with an interest in the Frenchman, but the Italian side clearly value him very highly, having set an asking price of up to €75m (£65m).
Juventus insist the midfielder is a key part of their future plans, but he could be a fantastic signing if the Reds are able to tempt them into a sale...
Thuram likened to Liverpool legend Gerrard
During the former Nice man's time in Ligue 1, Jermaine Pennant urged the Reds to sign him, saying: "I’d like to see Liverpool sign Khephren Thuram, he plays for Nice and he’s a box-to-box midfielder. I think he would be perfect, he’s skilful and he can tackle too. He’s like a young Gerrard, basically."
Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to establish himself as an important player for Juventus, making 35 appearances in all competitions this season, during which time he's contributed two goals and four assists.

The Reds have come forward to sign a Bayern Munich star.
The four-cap France international is particularly adept at driving the ball forward, averaging 0.9 successful dribbles per 90 in the Serie A this season, which is the third-highest amount in the Juventus squad.
Thuram has the ability to thrive at Anfield, and Liverpool clearly need to improve the squad this summer, having done a very poor job of defending the Premier League title.
