Report: Chiefs in ‘deep talks’ to trade Trent McDuffie to Rams

With under a week before free agency kicks off, the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be making an enormous move to allow themselves ultimate flexibility in building the roster for 2026 and beyond.

That is reflected in the compensation being sent to Kansas City. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chiefs will receive the later of the Rams’ two first-round picks (29th overall), a fifth-round selection, a sixth-round selection and a third-round pick in the 2027 draft.

It will be a homecoming for McDuffie, whose hometown is in Orange County and within a half hour of Los Angeles. As we wrote yesterday, McDuffie has a connection with Rams’ defensive passing-game coordinator Jimmy Lake, who led the recruiting effort at the University of Washington for McDuffie.

The Chiefs’ updated draft capital for the 2025 class will now include three selections within the top-40 picks. Here is the projected list of picks for Kansas City after the deal is done:

The Chiefs’ 2026 cornerback room will move forward with veteran Kristian Fulton and second-year player Nohl Williams leading the way.

How do you feel about the trade? Is the compensation worth losing the impact McDuffie had on the defense? Let us know what you think in the comments!
