One area of Chelsea’s squad set to be strengthened is central midfield, and Tyler Adams has emerged as a possible signing this summer, after almost joining Chelsea in 2023.
Todd Boehly is likely to fund another summer overhaul if history is to tell us anything, with Chelsea quiet in January. Last summer, the Blues spent the best part of £300m, adding Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens.
This summer, more additions are likely. With a new manager at the helm, Liam Rosenior will want to bring in some of his own signings. A goalkeeper, a centre-back, a midfielder and a new striker are required.
Surely we can just put our trust in Andrey Santos?
Or are the club worried about Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo?

In the middle of the park, Chelsea lack options despite the bloated size of the squad. Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo are returning from injury, but more midfield depth is likely, and Tyler Adams is a target.
What Tyler Adams said about his failed Chelsea move
Chelsea are said to be targeting the USA and Bournemouth star again after coming close to his signing back in 2023. Indeed, Leeds had been relegated, and Adams was looking for a way out of Elland Road.
At the time, it is believed concerns regarding Adams’ hamstring derailed a move, and that turned out to be the case. It would have seen him work with Mauricio Pochettino, which he now does for the USA.

Speaking in 2025 during an interview with FIFA, Adams shares just how close he came to leaving Leeds for Chelsea, but instead, he signed for Bournemouth. He says he was in London, ready to sign on the line.
“I was very close. I was in London, ready for the move to happen, but some things fell through one way (or the other). A lot of people have to sign off on certain things for a transfer to happen,” Adams said.
“One thing fell through, so they went with other options. So I ended up at Bournemouth, which I couldn’t be more happy about now,” the USA skipper continued. Now, he could finally join the London outfit.
What Christian Pulisic has said about Tyler Adams
Another former Chelsea man who knows Adams well is his United States teammate Christian Pulisic, widely renowned as one of his best pals with the USMNT. Pulisic is currently impressing at AC Milan.

Speaking about Adams’ importance to the United States team, Pulisic said that it is Adams’ energy allows him to play with more freedom. He might just be the perfect cover for ever-present Moises Caicedo.
“It’s not just the tackles or the ground he covers; it’s the energy. When he’s on the pitch, I feel like I have more freedom to attack because I know he’s cleaning up everything. He’s the engine of this team.”
Whether Bournemouth are open to his exit given it has been three years since Bournemouth spent £20m to land the former Leipzig man remains to be seen. But the chances are that Adams wouldn’t cost much.
