Packers’ free agent comes with ‘buyer beware’ label for rest of the NFL

The Green Bay Packers have a big decision to make along the line of scrimmage.

Top offensive tackle Rasheed Walker’s future is one that general manager Brian Gutekunst are going to need to weigh significantly in the days ahead, both his value along Green Bay’s offensive line against questions about both his durability and consistency in recent years.

Those around the league face the same questions about the 26-year-old who might be on the cusp of being the most coveted free agent at the position.

Big concerns follow Packers’ Rasheed Walker into free agency

Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Rasheed Walker (63) is shown during a joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, August 21, 2025 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

While the former Penn State product has been a relative stalwart along the offensive line, his level of play dipped last season, which could trigger some difficult conversations inside the Don Hutson Center as Gutekunst and the Packers figure out their free agency plan.

Over at Pro Football Focus, NFL analyst Bradley Locker suggests that teams across the league might think twice about offering Walker a top-dollar contract.

“In 2025, Walker’s pass-blocking grade fell from 80.1 to 69.3,” Locker points out for PFF. “And his 6.8% pressure rate allowed tied for 12th-worst among tackles with 400 or more pass-blocking snaps. Further, he surrendered five or more sacks for the second time in three seasons.

“Likewise, Walker has been somewhat of a non-factor in the run game. His career PFF run-blocking grade sits at only a 52.8 mark, and has been sub-56.5 in every year since 2023. Also, Walker is in the 21st percentile in negatively-graded run-blocking plays in that window.”

Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Rasheed Walker (63) is shown during the fourth quarter of their preseason game Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Green Bay Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks 20-7.

Fortunately for the Packers, there’s a succession plan, and an insurance policy on losing Walker already in the building.

As the Packers weigh Walker’s inconsistencies against his massive price tag, the presence of 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan looms large, giving Green Bay the flexibility to let their starting left tackle walk if the bidding war gets too rich for their blood.
