In a subsequent update, Schefter said the swap would see McDuffie moved for the 29th overall pick in the 2026 draft as well as fifth- and sixth-round picks. An additional third-round pick in 2027 is on the table.

The Chiefs had a record of 6-11 this past season and missed the playoffs after winning the Super Bowl the previous two years with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the helm.

“Damn,” Mahomes reacted on social media shortly after news of the report was published.

The trade would be a significant shakeup to the Chiefs roster as McDuffie has been one of the team’s most reliable defensive players since he entered the league.

It would be a homecoming for McDuffie, who was born and raised in Westminster, Calif., near Los Angeles.

The cornerback was drafted in the first round by the Chiefs in 2022.

McDuffie’s four quarterback sacks in his first two seasons put him in the record book, tied for the second-most sacks by a cornerback in NFL history and tied for the third-most sacks by a cornerback in Chiefs history.
