The New England Patriots made a last-minute visit to meet the most-likely No. 4 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
The New England Patriots have been named as a potential fit for Chicago Bears wide receiver D. J. Moore. CBSSports Jonathan Jones reported this on Wednesday afternoon.
Moore is coming off the 2025 season that saw him record 50 receptions for 682 yards and six touchdowns. He had a quieter season than in some of his previous years. However, he was still able to provide a weapon for the Bears.
His veteran experience was evident during the team’s playoff run. He recorded 11 catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns in two games.
The Patriots could use an additional veteran wide receiver for quarterback Drake Maye. Here’s what Jones had to say about the possible connection.
One Bears player plenty around the league are keeping an eye on is wide receiver D.J. Moore. The former first-round pick is coming off his least productive year of his career. The Patriots could be a landing spot for Moore if the Bears do a deal involving the receiver, or he could be part of a hypothetical package that goes to a needy Las Vegas team in a deal for Crosby.
Consistency Major Part Of Moore’s Career
Moore has been consistent over the course of his career. He has tallied 608 receptions for 8213 receiving yards and 41 touchdowns. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the first round with the 24th overall pick of the 2018 NFL draft. The Maryland star immediately burst onto the scene, recording 55 catches for 788 yards and two touchdowns.
The wide receiver still holds Panthers records to this day. He remains fourth in franchise history with 5,201 receiving yards.
On top of this, the wide receiver recorded three-straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons with the Panthers from 2019-2021. His best year came in 2020. That year, he recorded 66 catches for 1,193 yards and four touchdowns.
He has been able to make history with the Bears as well. The playmaker had a 230-yard game against the Washington Commanders in 2023. That was the second -most receiving yards in a single game in the history of the franchise.
He has also contributed to production in the rushing department. He has 510 rushing yards and two touchdowns throughout the course of his career.
The Patriots could potentially take a swing here. More will turn 29 in April. The Patriots have wanted to get a younger receiver on the roster. This is becoming even more apparent with the future of Stefon Diggs uncertain as of right now. The Patriots would be able to get more in the prime of his career.
The playmaker is currently in the middle of a four-year, $110 million contract. The contract runs through the 2029 season. At the time, it was the largest signing in Bears franchise history. He is set to make over $28 million in 2026 and 2027. Should he go to the Patriots, the move would not come without a hefty price tag.
An Intriguing Option for the Patriots
This would certainly be an intriguing option for the Patriots. He does have playmaking ability, and he does have the ability to stretch the field. That’s exactly what the Patriots need. They sorely lacked another playmaker at times last season. The deep-ball capability that Moore possesses would help Maye immensely.
On top of this, they would have more for several seasons. This would make it less of a risk in terms of having to re-sign him immediately following the 2026 season. This would give the Patriots the option to see how his career progresses before giving him another deal.
The Patriots would be wise to at least kick the tires on Moore. Doing so could potentially land them the weapon they’ve been looking for.
