Dominik Szoboszlai has arguably been Liverpool’s standout performer this season. The Hungary captain featured in the disappointing defeat to bottom club Wolves on Tuesday night, a result that dented the Reds’ push for Champions League qualification.

Andre’s deflected stoppage-time strike denied Liverpool the chance to move level on points with Manchester United and Aston Villa in third and fourth. Instead, they remain adrift and could slip to sixth if Chelsea defeat Villa on Wednesday.

Szoboszlai has delivered key, match-winning moments throughout the campaign as he approaches the final two years of his contract. Speaking in early February, the 25-year-old reaffirmed his love for Anfield and the supporters but admitted there had been no progress over a new deal.

“Nothing yet, to be honest. Nothing, from now on… it is not in my hands. There is no progression but if the right offer comes then let’s see. “Right now, I am doing my job on the pitch – we will see in the future,” he said.

“I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds. “It is not on me. I would love to (stay). We will see. It is always there and back and there and back. Let’s see what happens.”

Dominik Szoboszlai sent a message to Vinicius Junior on Wednesday, just weeks after the Real Madrid star spoke publicly about their friendship. The Liverpool midfielder took to Instagram to celebrate receiving a pair of the Brazilian’s signature boots, sharing images of Vinicius’ latest Nike Mercurial Vapor release.

Szoboszlai’s post came just 12 hours after Liverpool’s defeat, with the Hungarian showing appreciation for the gift from his close friend. The Hungarian captioned the post: “@Vinijr [fire emoji and hand with index finger and thumb crossed emoji].”

Szoboszlai, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, was seen liking a social media post connecting him with the Spanish giants. Hungary national team manager Marco Rossi claimed that Szoboszlai has always dreamt of playing for Los Blancos. “I’ve known him since he was a little boy, his dream has always been Real Madrid,” Rossi said.
