The Los Angeles Rams, it was reported earlier today, are set to acquire All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs. According to reports, Los Angeles is going to send a 2026 first round pick (#29 overall), fifth round pick, sixth round pick, and 2027 third round pick to Kansas City.
It is, indeed, a very steep price that the Rams are going to be paying. However, they do not have a wide window open with which to win a Super Bowl with aging MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford. This move shows that they are serious about winning the Super Bowl within the next year or two.
But in addition to giving up a plethora of draft picks, the Rams also are giving McDuffie the largest contract in NFL history for a cornerback.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Los Angeles is going to give McDuffie a contract that will make him the highest-paid cornerback in the history of the NFL:
When Trent McDuffie gets his new contract, which should be soon, it’s likely that he’s the new highest-paid CB in the NFL at more than $30.1M in new money. The #Rams, who acquired McDuffie and his $13.6M salary in 2026, will see it as an entirely new contract. https://t.co/ozejD42h34

McDuffie is scheduled to play the 2026 season on his fifth-year option, which was previously picked up by Kansas City. This will pay him about $13.6 million this year.
However, Schefter reports that his new contract will come with $30.1+ million in new money. That number, presumably, is not a total number. That is an annual number.
Currently, Sauce Gardner of the Indianapolis Colts is the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, making $30.1 million a year. If Los Angeles intends to give McDuffie more than Gardner, that means that they will pay him $30.2 million or more a year.
