Eagles Predicted to Cut Ties With Super Bowl Champion

The Philadelphia Eagles are just over one year removed from winning the Super Bowl, but it already seems like a drought for fans in Philly.

The team didn’t come close to the big game in 2025, instead falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild card round of the playoffs on Jan. 11.

So, changes need to be made, and that means freeing up cap space and putting together a different roster for the 2026-27 season.

In a Tuesday, March 3 feature for USA Today, Ayrton Ostly gives his predictions for NFL trade moves. He predicts defensive tackle Jordan Davis of the Eagles, who won a Super Bowl with the team, will head to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Davis is one year away from free agency, but as Ostly points out, the Eagles are planners. They like to figure out what they’re going to do with free agents early and often trade early. “They drafted and developed Moro Ojomo in the likely (and ultimately true) event of Milton Williams signing elsewhere in free agency last season,” he adds. “They may execute a similar playbook this offseason.”

Davis is in the last year of his rookie contract, according to research from Spotrac, and has $12.93 million against the cap in 2026.

“Philadelphia may judge the current state of the roster and prioritize retaining trade deadline acquisition Jaelan Phillips, who could cost upwards of $18 million per year on his next deal,” Ostly suggests.

Jacksonville has 10 total selections over seven rounds in the 2026 NFL draft, Ostly notes. The team got to the playoffs last season, but they have to shape their lineup to be serious contenders.

“Improving the interior defensive line between Joshua Hines-Allen and Travon Walker should be one of the priorities,” Ostly notes. “They could flip one of their projected Day 2 or Day 3 picks to the Eagles in return for Davis.”

To do this, Jacksonville would have to make the dollars and cents work, but they could create space for the trade, if it’s something they see as a valuable move for the team’s future.
