As the Golden State Warriors get prepared for their upcoming matchup against the Houston Rockets, the team landed a key update regarding the veteran center, Kristaps Porzingis.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Porzingis is going to travel with the Warriors on the road in Houston, Texas. While that’s a positive step in the right direction for the standout, it doesn’t guarantee that he’s on pace to play this week.
“No word yet on his playing status for next three,” Slater reported. “But notable development after staying back last road trip. He's missed the last five games with general illness.”
Porzingis hasn’t played three games in a row since early November. Throughout the entire 2025-2026 NBA season, he’s been dealing with multiple setbacks.
Following a run with the Boston Celtics, Porzingis joined the Atlanta Hawks via trade this season. He was with the Hawks up until the 2026 trade deadline. The Warriors had their sights set on a major front-court target, as they were rumored to be in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.
Once the Warriors got word that the Milwaukee Bucks were unlikely to deal Giannis, the Warriors pivoted. The team landed on Porzingis, who has plenty of experience in the regular season, as well as a championship run under his belt.
Porzingis officially joined the Warriors’ roster on February 5. He didn’t debut for the team right away as he was recovering from a minor setback. The new Warriors center hoped to be back on the court following the All-Star break. Everything went according to plan at first.
The Porzingis debut came against the Celtics on February 19. The veteran checked in for 17 minutes. He shot 5-9 from the field, scoring 12 points off the bench. It was a promising first matchup for Porzingis on the Warriors, but he couldn’t stay on the court. Over the next five games, Porzingis was out.
The Warriors revealed their injury report for Thursday’s game against the Rockets on Wednesday afternoon and made an official call on Porzingis. He is going to be ruled out once again. While Porzingis won’t get a chance to face Houston, he’ll be around for a potential return to action on the current road trip.
Following Thursday’s game, the Warriors will return to the court on Saturday to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. The road trip will conclude on Monday against the Utah Jazz.
