Wolves v Liverpool prediction, team news&lineups

Liverpool faces a tough test in the Premier League against an improved Wolves side this Tuesday. With the top-four race tightening, the Reds can’t afford any slip-ups if they want to stay in the hunt.

Of course, the Reds will still be expected to get the better of Rob Edwards’ side as the West Midlands outfit remain stuck at the very foot of the division on 13 points.

But Liverpool cannot afford to be complacent if they want to solidify a Champions League space, with their arch rivals Manchester United now sat in third, after picking up a sixth win from seven games under the transformative reign of Michael Carrick.

Yet, having smashed five past West Ham United at the weekend, Liverpool will hope they can easily get the better of the basement club away from home in mid-week.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the showdown at Molineux.

How to watch

The fixture will kick off at 8:15pm GMT on Tuesday, March 3.

The game will be shown on TNT Sports in the UK and Discovery+ in the USA, with coverage starting at 19:00 UK time on Tuesday, March 3.

Recent form

Wolves:

Despite sitting at the very bottom of the league with only two wins next to their name, Wolves have picked up some decent results in recent weeks.

In particular, a 2-0 win over local rivals Aston Villa last time out would have raised many a smile, as the Old Gold are now sat on 13 points, and can’t be deemed the worst Premier League team in history, which is held by Derby County, finishing their grim 2007/08 campaign on just 11 points.

Away from this surprise victory being collected over Liverpool’s Champions League competitors, Wolves have also picked up draws against Arsenal and Nottingham in recent matches, with the 2-2 draw coming their way against Mikel Arteta’s men, temporarily derailing the Gunners title charge.

Still, with Wolves’ dire defensive record seeing them ship 51 goals all season long, the Reds will surely fancy their chances of a win at Molineux, with the Reds in a rich vein of form themselves.

Liverpool:

Slot’s side is now in a steady flow of form, having wobbled throughout the season as they disastrously come up short in picking up back-to-back Premier League titles.

Thankfully, though, across 2026 to date, Liverpool have been a tough nut to crack, with only two defeats coming their way from 14 games in the New Year.

Liverpool’s improved form in 2026:

Stat Liverpool

Games played 14

Wins 8

Draws 4

Losses 2

Eight of those 14 games have also seen Liverpool clinch maximum points, with back-to-back wins against Nuno Espirito Santo’s strugglers, and a Nottingham Forest side deep in the relegation battle, showing off the Reds ability to beat those teams near the lower reaches of the league.

Another encouraging stat that comes to mind is the fact that the Merseyside giants have won four of their last five visits to Molineux, with a narrow 2-1 victory coming about last season in September, long before Slot’s men romped home to the title in style.

Liverpool fans travelling to the West Midlands will be hopeful of a more convincing victory this time around, even if Florian Wirtz won’t be available for selection.

What has been said:

Rob Edwards (Wolves)

Edwards was ecstatic at the full-time whistle of Wolves’ 2-0 triumph over Villa, with the ex-Luton Town boss no doubt wanting more of the same, when Liverpool come to town.

He said, at the close of the 2-0 victory: “We needed to carry out the plan. Against a team like Villa, who are tactically brilliant and have such good individuals, it’s important you carry out the plan to the best of your ability and when you get it wrong, run really hard and try to defend your goal.

When we didn’t get it right, we worked incredibly hard to defend, and when we did, we managed to take advantage of a couple of the moments that we had. I thought we were excellent. We didn’t get everything right in the first half and had to adjust a bit, so we could be better with our pressing.

“I felt like I was looking the right way for a lot of that second half. If they had the ball, I felt like we were in a good place. Once we go 1-0 up the game starts to shift, but in the main we defended really well with brilliant blocks and desire to keep the ball out of the net.

I want to be really respectful of how good they are, so to beat them you have to be pretty good as well, and I thought the performance overall was excellent.”

Arne Slot (Liverpool)

Slot, when speaking directly on the game during his Monday morning press conference, spoke of the difficult nature of the clash, as Liverpool looks to remain in the top-four spots in the ever-changing league.

He said: “Wolves are doing much better than their results show. Whole season they’ve hardly been beaten by a big goal difference.

Recently they’ve been getting points and a win against Villa. It’ll be a difficult game tomorrow.”

He also commented on the unique circumstances facing his side, as Liverpool face off against the Old Gold on Friday night, as well.

Slot concluded: “It’s not unusual to play three games in seven days for us.

It’s a challenge to play each other twice in a few days, but I like that. In the Champions League when you play a team again soon after, you can change the set-up of your team.

But we (Wolves and Liverpool) know each other that well, I don’t see much difference playing each other twice in a few days rather than a bigger gap.”
