New England Patriots make shocking WR move after Super Bowl 60 loss

The New England Patriots are already making significant changes to their offense heading into the 2026 NFL season after the team’s Super Bowl 60 loss a month ago.

However, fans of the AFC East franchise might not love the direction Mike Vrabel is going following the team’s tough defeat against the Seattle Seahawks.

On Wednesday, NFL insider Tom Pelissero revealed that New England is releasing four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs. The wideout joined the Patriots for their Super Bowl 60 run after spending the previous year in Houston.

Diggs has been one of the top receivers in the NFL since entering the league in 2015 with the Minnesota Vikings. However, following his time in Buffalo the 32 year old has bounced around with several AFC teams.

His off-field concerns have also been a major talking point recently as he awaits trial for an assault allegation. While Diggs did plead not guilty in the matter, the looming case is certainly a distraction for potential NFL suitors.

Last season, Diggs managed to haul in 85 catches and surpassed 1,000 yards with Drake Maye throwing him the ball. However, he finished the year with only four touchdown receptions, ranking third on the team.

New England has invested in several receivers during recent NFL Draft experiences. Unfortunately, the team hasn’t found a standout at the position and resorted to bringing in veterans like Diggs and Mack Hollins.

Diggs’ next pretrial hearing is slated for next month and that outcome could dictate what happens with his NFL future. The former All Pro wideout has finished with more than 1,000 yards in seven of his last eight seasons, so perhaps another team will look for help at the position as the offseason progresses.
