After reaching the NFC Championship Game and having their best season since winning the Super Bowl in 2022, the Los Angeles Rams have been aggressive in their efforts to remain a legitimate title contender in 2026.

One of those moves to maintain success in the NFC during the 2026 campaign is bringing in former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury as assistant head coach under Sean McVay.

Kingsbury has put together quite a resume throughout his coaching career, as he was a head coach at Texas Tech, then made the jump to the NFL as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, before landing with the Commanders following a short stint with USC as a senior offensive analyst, where he helped develop Caleb Williams.

Now, Kingsbury will take on yet another position as assistant head coach of the Rams, with McVay recently offering some insight into his new colleague in Los Angeles.

“Kliff will be the assistant head coach,” McVay said of Kingsbury. “Great overseer of a lot of things offensively. I think the biggest thing will be that collaboration of understanding some of the success with some of the things he’s done, some of the things we’ve done.”

McVay also shed some light on the friendship they’ve had over the years and the respect he has for what he’s been able to accomplish thus far.

“Kliff and I have always been really good friends,” McVay said. “I’ve always known the work capacity that he has, and I’ve always really respected what he’s done from afar. But what’s intriguing to me about it is it’s very different than what we’ve done, and just because it’s different doesn’t mean that it can’t be better.”

The Super Bowl-winning head coach stressed the value of having Kingsbury as someone to lean on because of his coaching experience.

“So, there might be some times for us to be able to figure out where does that fit. But I think most importantly, he’ll be basically there as someone I can lean on in a lot of the different things that come up in this chair, or really just big picture, and that’s where he’ll be tremendously valuable person for our staff. When you guys get to know him, he’s got a great humility, a great way about himself, and just want to come in, learn, and contribute.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this new partnership works out in Los Angeles and whether Kingsbury can help this team become a Super Bowl champion once again.
