Green Bay Packers: Rasheed Walker gets absurd top-5 ranking on NFL free agent list

The Green Bay Packers, by all accounts, are not going to retain left tackle Rasheed Walker this off-season. After being selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Walker was thrust into the starting role in 2023 when David Bakhtiari went down with what turned out to be a career-ending knee injury. He remained Green Bay’s starting left tackle through the 2025 NFL season.

But it was not a job that Walker was handed every year. Each preseason, the Packers made him compete with others and made him earn the role. And when they selected Jordan Morgan in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, it was clear that he was never going to be a part of their long-term plans.

To his credit, Walker has not missed a single game in the last three seasons. Undoubtedly, the fact that he can stay healthy will make him an attractive target on the NFL free agent market.

Additionally, the fact that he is one of the only true left tackles that will be available this off-season has ensured that he will get a hefty contract from whoever signs him.

This all being said, Walker was very inconsistent as a starting left tackle. While he was, overall, dependable in pass protection, he struggled mightily in run blocking and was one of the most penalized linemen in the NFL.

Which is why his ranking as the fifth best NFL free agent on ESPN’s latest top 100 list is so confusing:

“Walker’s pass block win rate of 93.8% ranked 11th among 68 qualifying offensive tackles. His technique could still improve and he lacks a strong anchor, but he has the footwork and mobility to match the speed of edge rushers. At a premium position, Walker will see heavy interest in free agency.”

Walker is expected to earn at the very least $20 million a year on his next contract. However, Packers fans will tell anyone that whoever signs him is likely overpaying at that number.

Meanwhile, Green Bay is likely going to go with Morgan at left tackle in 2026, and hopefully beyond.
