Arteta: We can do better but the desire to win is incredible

Mikel Arteta spoke to TNT Sports after tonight’s 1-0 win at Brighton. Here’s what he had to say.

On taking three points …

Yeah, this was a really difficult one and after everything that we’ve been through in the last few weeks as well. It was going to be a really, really tough test and we went through it.

Was this win different from the last two?

Every game in the Premier League offers you different things and in relation to the context that you face as well. The movement of the players as well, the issues that we had with the players who started, so credit to the boys because the effort they put in is astronomical. I think on the day there are certain things that we have to do better, but the commitment and the desire to win that they have is incredible.

Saka scoring on his 300th appearance …

I didn’t know it was that many but at his age it’s just incredible what he’s doing, the consistency that he’s showing, and it’s a pleasure to have him.

On keeping a clean sheet …

Yeah, we are missing quite a lot of players in the back line and we have to make certain adjustments today but again the commitment of every player is unbelievable, and that’s the reason why we do what we do.

The closing stages being stressful …

But it’s going to be like this, when you look at other games and the margins and how difficult it is to beat an opponent in this league now, it’s a reality so we have to face it.

On a 7 points gap after City’s draw …

Well we did what we had to do and that’s what we have to continue to do.
