When Mike Tomlin stepped down from his role with the Pittsburgh Steelers, many thought a new career in television could be on the horizon. However, he’s not the only member of the 2025 Steelers to find his name involved in those rumors. Last week, Aaron Rodgers was brought up as a potential name to watch in the TV world.
The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand named Rodgers, Tomlin and Cam Heyward as names that could fill Tony Dungy’s role with NBC. But speaking this week for the first time since the season ended, Rodgers shut those rumors down.
“I’m fully content on living a private life,” Rodgers said Wednesday on The Pat McAfee Show. “When this is done, it’s Keyser Soze; you won’t see me. You won’t see me. I’m not doing TV… I’m not gonna be out and about.”
For one, Rodgers’ career on the field might not be over yet. He was unsurprisingly non-committal on the 2025 season and did mention that there hasn’t been a ton of progress on his return. But the same was said last year, and Rodgers ended up joining the team just before minicamp. After a positive first season with the Steelers, he may want to come back.
For what it’s worth, he does have the media experience that makes some speculate. His long run in the league has certainly taught him how to speak in a media setting, even if he might not like it very much. And while it’s not a traditional studio analyst role, Rodgers has plenty of experience talking on McAfee’s TV show as well.
However, his desire to live a private life doesn’t make this news much of a surprise. For all the flak he gets, Rodgers is a very private person. That’s why nobody seemed to know his intentions for months last offseason, and the same could be said for the beginning of this offseason, too. It definitely seems possible that he’d disappear off the map once his playing career comes to an end.
While TV might not be on Rodgers’ horizon, the Steelers hope retirement isn’t either. They’ve made Rodgers their first priority this offseason, and there’s a lot more risk with any of the other options at quarterback. For now, it seems they’ll have to wait a little longer for an answer on that front.
