One of the NFL’s most historic stadiums was evacuated this week after a fire broke out inside.

Emergency crews were called to Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Packers’ home stadium, Tuesday afternoon after reports of a fire inside one of the building’s locker rooms. According to officials, Ashwaubenon Public Safety and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to the scene shortly before 2:20 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, the building had already been evacuated and fire alarms were sounding throughout the NFL stadium. “There was no smoke or flames, but you could hear the fire alarms,” said Lt. Shauna Walesh of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Meanwhile, Bears head coach Ben Johnson had a blunt three-word comment on the Packers' Matt LaFleur.

Crews entered the stadium and quickly located the source of the fire in a third locker room located inside the facility. Officials confirmed the locker room involved in the incident is not used by the Packers or visiting teams on NFL game days.

Firefighters said the stadium’s sprinkler system had already activated before they reached the scene, helping contain most of the flames. Crews were then able to fully extinguish the remaining hot spots within 10 minutes of arriving.

While the incident triggered a full evacuation of the stadium, authorities confirmed there were no injuries. Firefighters remained on site for several hours afterward to ventilate the building and remove smoke from the affected area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.

A FOX 11 news crew at the scene reported seeing what appeared to be a burned plastic storage bin removed from the locker room following the incident. Officials did not immediately confirm what materials ignited the blaze. Lt. Walesh said investigators are still working to determine the exact cause.

The locker room involved in the fire is a relatively new addition to Lambeau Field. The space, often referred to as “Locker Room 3,” was completed in 2024 as part of an effort to expand the stadium’s ability to host non-NFL events.

The facility was designed for use during college football games, concerts, soccer matches and other major events held at the stadium. The construction project cost approximately $5 million.

The Green Bay/Brown County Professional Football Stadium District funded roughly $2.97 million of the project using ticket tax revenue generated by Lambeau Field events. The Green Bay Packers contributed the remaining $2 million toward the locker room’s development.

The auxiliary locker room measures about 8,500 square feet and includes space for coaches’ offices, staff rooms, and separate facilities for male and female personnel. It was built with approximately 90 lockers and sits near the same level as the stadium’s visiting locker room.

Although the fire caused disruption at the stadium, officials emphasized that the building’s safety systems performed exactly as designed.
