Liverpool may have to wait until the summer transfer window opens, but speculation about potential signings is already underway.

The Reds, currently fifth in the Premier League under Arne Slot, are competing for a Champions League spot, and uncertainty over their European qualification adds fuel to transfer conjecture.

Elsewhere, Brooklyn Football Club (Brooklyn FC) have announced the signing of former Liverpool defender Ryan McLaughlin, pending league and federation approval.

The 31-year-old joins the club from Dublin-based St Patrick’s Athletic, where he was a regular starter with 53 appearances across all competitions.

He played a key role in helping the team win the 2023 FAI Cup and scoring a memorable goal against Beşiktaş in the UEFA Conference League.

A product of Liverpool’s famed academy, McLaughlin joined from Glenavon in 2011 at the age of 16. He gained early experience on loan at Barnsley and Aberdeen. He later featured for several EFL clubs, including Oldham Athletic, Blackpool, Rochdale, and Morecambe.

At the international level, McLaughlin has earned five senior caps for Northern Ireland and represented the country at U16, U17, U19, and U21 levels.

“Ryan brings a high level of international experience to our back line,” said Head Coach Marlon LeBlanc. “He reads the game well, competes hard every day, and he is comfortable under pressure. He has played in big games during his career, and that experience matters as we set our standards from day one.”

Ryan McLaughlin made his Northern Ireland debut at 19 under Michael O’Neill, coming off the bench in a 1-0 loss to Uruguay. His most recent appearance for the national team was against Costa Rica in June 2018.

Brooklyn FC, founded in 2023, will make their USL Championship debut this weekend in the Eastern Conference against Indy Eleven. The club’s inaugural match is on Sunday, March 8, with kickoff at 3:00 pm at Maimonides Park.

Welcome to Brooklyn, Ryan McLaughlin!
