Marseille were knocked out of the Coupe de France on penalties against Toulouse after drawing 2-2 in normal time of their quarterfinal.

Yann Gboho cancelled out Mason Greenwood's opener and although the hosts retook the lead after the break through Igor Paixão, Charlie Cresswell soon found the equaliser to send the game to spot-kicks.

Both sides had a penalty saved before Ethan Nwaneri's skied effort saw Marseille lose the shootout 4-3 as their last realistic chance of silverware disappeared.

Marseille went ahead only two minutes in when Greenwood was fouled in the box and the forward stepped up to fire the resulting penalty into the bottom corner.

Toulouse replied in the 13th minute when Gboho smashed a close-range shot home after Cresswell's initial header from a corner was saved.

The hosts searched to restore their lead when Nayef Aguerd headed wide and Arthur Vermeeren then had a brilliant opportunity after rattling the post from Greenwood's delivery.

Himad Abdelli's effort from outside of the area was saved by Kjetil Haug and shortly after the interval Gerónimo Rulli was called into action to deny Rasmus Nicolaisen.

Marseille then restored their advantage in the 56th minute through Paixao's curling strike, but their lead was short-lived as former England under-21s international Cresswell headed in Aron Donnum's corner only four minutes later.

Emersonn hit an effort past the post for the visitors and Greenwood had two attempts sail wide as both teams searched for a winner, but the game was decided by penalties.

Leonardo Balerdi and Cristian Casseres had penalties saved before Arsenal-loanee Nwaneri missed the target as Toulouse progressed into the final four.
