‘Would Make A Ton Of Sense’ For Steelers To Pursue Packers WR Romeo Doubs In Free Agency,…

While Aaron Rodgers didn’t offer much of an update on his future, that doesn’t stop the world from spinning. Free agency will be here soon, and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster has plenty of weaknesses. That includes wide receiver. No matter who throws the ball for them, they need to upgrade at wideout. Analyst Mike Renner thinks that Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs would be a good match for Pittsburgh.

“I’m looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he could theoretically be reuniting with Aaron Rodgers…” Renner said on Wednesday on his Pushing the Pile podcast. “He’s a Packers-type of wide receiver, which is kind of a Mike McCarthy-type of wide receiver in that that scouting tree was Mike McCarthy and what he wanted from his offense for a long period of time.

“I think it would make a ton of sense given how no one else outside of DK Metcalf could do a darn thing in that receiving corps last year.”

McCarthy was the Packers’ head coach from 2006-2018, but Doubs was drafted in 2022, so the two didn’t overlap. Still, Doubs played with Rodgers during the quarterback’s final season in Green Bay, and the two seemed to form a good relationship. Rodgers reportedly checked if Doubs was available to trade for during last season.

Doubs caught 42 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games with Rodgers as his quarterback. While there’s no telling what Rodgers will do, if he returns to Pittsburgh, he and Doubs likely wouldn’t take long to get on the same page.

Doubs had a solid 2025 season, catching 55 passes for 724 yards and six touchdowns. While that’s his career high in yards, he’ll only be 26 years old this season, so there’s reason to believe he could improve. Especially with a bigger opportunity outside of the Packers’ crowded receiver room.

However, Doubs stated that he wants to remain with the Packers. Therefore, it might be difficult to pry him away if Green Bay wants to keep him.

Depending on his price tag, though, Doubs could be exactly what the Steelers need at receiver. Metcalf is their No. 1, but Doubs could be a reliable No. 2. Also, Pittsburgh could still spend a high draft pick on a wideout. A starting receiver group of Metcalf, Doubs, and a first or second-round rookie sounds much better than what the Steelers had in 2025. We’ll see if they can get a deal done.
