The Dolphins announced they had re-signed linebacker Cameron Goode
The Miami Dolphins roster is undergoing major changes. After years of giving out large salaries to high-end players, the team finds itself with salary cap constraints as we approach free agency. Unlike in years past, it does not seem likely that the Dolphins will give out any high-priced contract for superstar players.
While a large contract for a quarterback remains a possibility, aprojected $25 million to $30 million contract for a free agent like Malik Willis would still place him outside the top 20 highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. However, the Dolphins will likely have to absorb a cap hit of over $50 million once they part ways with Tagovailoa, which will leave the team allocating one of the largest portions of its salary cap to the quarterback position.
With the Dolphins having those issues, the team will lose a significant number of players to free agency this offseason. But, the team announced that one of those players will be retained.
Miami Dolphins Re-Sign Cameron Goode
The Miami Dolphins announced they had re-signed linebacker Cameron Goode.
The team wrote in their official announcement, “Goode has appeared in 37 career games with one start over the past three seasons with Miami (2023-25), recording 10 tackles (three solo), two quarterback hits and a pass defensed, in addition to 19 special teams tackles (eight solo). He appeared in all 17 games last season with Miami, tallying seven tackles (two solo) and a pass defensed, along with 15 stops on special teams. Goode was a seventh-round selection (224th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2022 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at California (2017-21), where he appeared in 37 games and recorded 170 tackles (97 solo), 21.0 sacks, two interceptions, 12 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in five seasons with the Golden Bears.”
Goode marks the first player the Dolphins have brought back on a standard contract under the new front office led by general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan. While listed as a linebacker, Goode primarily plays a special teams role for the Dolphins. He totaled 318 special teams snaps during the 2025 season, and the team announced that one of those players will be retained.
Miami Dolphins Upcoming Free Agency
While the team has been getting linked with some popular free agents, spending big would go against the philosophyJon-Eric Sullivan talked about having with the Dolphins.“We’re going to draft and develop and retain our own,” Sullivan said. “It’s important to us that we raise our own because that’s culture, right? We don’t want a team full of mercenaries. That creates problems on multiple levels… But then within that, it’s who you infuse into that locker room. We want people who love football, who want to be the best that they can be, who are selfless, who are good teammates.”
When asked at the NFL Combine on the team’s upcoming free agency,Sullivan doubled down on not spending big. He said, “Especially year one, free agency, we’re not gonna be big shoppers in free agency.” When asked about what kind of moves the team could make, Sullivan answered, “We’ll have an opportunity to add a role player or two that could come in and help us win.”
