The Las Vegas Raiders are in a prime position to sign Seattle Seahawks free-agent wide receiver Rashid Shaheed after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that he’s not close to an extension with Seattle.

“Rashid Shaheed is said to not be close to an extension with the Seahawks and the expectation is that he now will test the free agent market Monday, per sources.”

The Raiders, with the second most cap space in the NFL at $88.1 million according to OvertheCap.com, have wide receiver as a big point of emphasis to address this offseason.

Raiders in Prime Position to Snag Seahawks’ WR Rashid Shaheed

According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, there’s a feeling that the Raiders like Shaheed.

“Some around the league are linking Shaheed to the Raiders. The feeling is that Las Vegas likes him a lot, though it will be selective at the position if the money gets too out of hand.”

It would make sense, considering the Raiders now have Klint Kubiak and Andrew Janocko, who were both coaches with the Seahawks last season.

Money shouldn’t be an issue for the Raiders. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has Shaheed signing a projected average annual salary of around $6-12 million, and The Athletic’s Daniel Popper pinned him signing a three-year, $39 million deal, which is $1 million over Barnwell’s projected annual salary. Here’s what Popper had to say regarding Shaheed:

“Seattle general manager John Schneider traded for Shaheed at the deadline, sending fourth- and fifth-round picks to New Orleans, and it turned out to be one of the best personnel moves of the season. Shaheed made several huge plays for the Seahawks down the stretch of the regular season and into the postseason. He is one of the league’s most electric returners. Shaheed is a true burner who commands attention in the deep part of the field. His speed creates air in the coverage and opportunities for his teammates. He is not always friendly to the quarterback on non-deep routes, and he needs to do a better job working back to the ball.”

To make things clear, Shaheed won’t be brought in to be the featured wide receiver. But he does bring a unique skill set that could be a perfect gadget weapon for the Raiders.

Raiders General Manager John Spytek’s Approach Regarding Free Agency

Despite the Raiders having the second-most cap space in the NFL, that doesn’t mean they’ll go on a spending spree. This also doesn’t mean the Raiders will take a conservative approach either.

“I would say intelligently aggressive,” general manager John Spytek said regarding the Raiders’ plan during free agency. “Have a good plan and not get carried away. …We’re going to sit and figure out what this team needs in order to take the next step from a player standpoint, and what makes sense in Klint’s vision and my vision, and pair those two up. We’re going to attack it full-on. We’re sitting in a position of strength in the market, but we want to be smart with that, too. I don’t want to wake up in ’27 or ’28 and kind of regret some of the deals that we did, knowing that emotion got too involved in that.”

Intelligently aggressive. Making the right moves at the right price, and going after Shaheed is one move the Raiders will likely make.
