The Kansas City Chiefs stunned fans by pulling the trigger on a blockbuster trade to send cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams on March 4.
In the exchange, the Chiefs receive four draft picks: the 29th overall pick in 2026, along with fifth and sixth-round picks, and a 2027 third-rounder, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
McDuffie was set to earn $13.6 million as he entered the final year of his rookie contract. However, McDuffie is predicted to “sign a long-term deal with the Rams,” Schefter noted.
The Chiefs’ No. 21 overall pick from the 2022 NFL draft has spent his entire NFL career in Kansas City. The All-Pro corner won two Super Bowl championships with the franchise. Cheering him on from the sidelines at Arrowhead Stadium was his girlfriend, Gabriella Esposito.
Esposito and McDuffie will celebrate their second anniversary later this month. McDuffie commemorated their one-year anniversary on Instagram with a tribute post that read, “My Rock. My Peace. My Safe Space. Cheers to a Year of Memories and a Lifetime of Laughter… I love you so much pooks 🖤.”
After the news of McDuffie’s trade broke, Esposito shared an emotional message on her Instagram Stories.
Trent McDuffie’s Girlfriend Is ‘Crying’ Over a Heartfelt Story About the Ex-Chiefs Cornerback
On the same day McDuffie’s trade news was announced, ESPN shared a story about McDuffie’s brother, Tyler, who died of a heart attack in 2015.
“Now, Trent honors his brother in a multitude of ways to remember how much Tyler means to him,” the caption read. In addition to wearing the No. 22 jersey, “I find the 22-yard line, and I take a kneel,” McDuffie says. “I tell Tyler that, ‘You got the best seat in the house now, dawg. You get to truly live it through me.”
Esposito shared the post on her Instagram Stories and wrote, “So I’ll be crying all day with my feed filled with my honey, 🥹❤️.”
As of now, Rams running back Blake Corum wears the No. 22 jersey. It’s unclear if he plans to give up the number with McDuffie coming to town.

McDuffie and Esposito posted photos on their Instagram Stories from the Los Angeles Lakers game at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday night. The University of Washington alum previously said that if he were to play for another team, he’d like it to be in his hometown of Southern California.
“You’re going to get me in trouble,” McDuffie said with a smile while speaking at a back-to-school event in August, per ESPN. “Let’s think. If I could play for another team, I’d probably want to play close to my family, so that would probably be the L.A. Rams so that my family could come see every single game.”
McDuffie already knows some familiar faces in Los Angeles as he played for Rams passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake at Washington in 2019. He was also teamamtes with Rams superstar wide receiver Puka Nacua in college for two years.
