Dylan Harper gets candid on Kon Knueppel, Cooper Flagg rookie rise

In the wake of the sensational rise of Kon Knueppel, Cooper Flagg, VJ Edgecombe and several other members of the 2026 NBA Draft Class, Dylan Harper is enjoying his own pace and growth with the San Antonio Spurs.

The No. 2 overall pick of last year's draft offered insightful words as he was asked about not getting maximized opportunities compared to the three.

“Day by day was definitely my biggest mentality," he told reporters after the Spurs beat the Philadelphia 76ers last Tuesday. "I think, props to those guys. They came out right when the season started, started running and going. So I mean, they were obviously doing a great job. But I mean, just looking at stuff like that and just looking around the league, I mean, obviously makes me and everyone else hungrier.

"But I think just not comparing myself to anyone and just kinda running my own race because I think we’re all in different situations, and I’m blessed to be in this one.”

Knueppel, Flagg and Edgecombe are primarily the top rookies this season out of their individual numbers and performances.

But in terms of collective success, no one can even match Harper among his peers. He is enjoying a special season with San Antonio as one of the top teams in the league, sitting second in the Western Conference with a 44-17 record.

As such, Harper certainly played a key role in this meteoric year for the Spurs. In 50 games, the former Rutgers standout is averaging 11.2 points, 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds across 22.1 minutes.
