Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs have yet to make an official announcement about whether or not Kelce will return to the field with the franchise for the 2026-27 season, but they have to make a decision soon, because free agency starts on Wednesday, March 11.

Now, Kelce has given what’s possibly his more telling retirement update yet amid his wedding planning with Taylor Swift. Sometimes, it’s not just what someone says that grabs your attention but also the way they said it. That’s the case with Kelce and his latest remarks.

Kelce, of course, hosts a podcast called “New Heights” with his brother Jason, and they have new episodes debut every Wednesday. During the Wednesday, March 4 episode of the show, Travis opened up about retirement in a way that he hasn’t before, and it points towards what may be his choice.

Travis Kelce Gives Telling Comments About Retirement and His Love for Football Amid Kansas City Chiefs Talks

During the Wednesday episode of “New Heights,” Travis was asked by Randy Moss what he’ll miss most about the NFL and football whenever he decides to retire. His answer was simple but meaningful and packed with emotion.

“I think it’s just those moments in the big games,” Kelce said on the show. “The feeling of having to rise to the occasion, be there for 70,000 that are counting on you, outside of the guys that you go to war with. Those moments of rising to the occasion in the heat of the battle in the playoffs and all the big games out there”

He added, “That’s a feeling I know I’ll never get again. Those are the things you cherish the most. If you’re fortunate enough to be in the playoffs and make runs at it, the satisfaction that you get and the successful feeling of all the hard work you put in is finally paying off and I think that’ll be one of the things I miss the most for sure.”

Kansas City Chiefs Star Travis Kelce’s Decision May Already Be Made

Also on Wednesday, ESPN insider Nate Taylor dropped the news that Kelce, he says, is coming back. That’s his report, and now, he says it’s just a matter of time before the announcement is made.

Taylor appeared on the Cody & Gold show on 96.5 The Fan in Kansas City, and the subject of Kelce came up. When asked if roster moves would impact if Kelce would decide to come back to the team, Taylor dropped the news that Kelce, he says, is coming back.

“He’s coming back, guys,” Taylor reported on the show. “Every indication I’ve gotten is that Travis Kelce is looking forward to coming back. When we’ll know that for sure? That’s really his prerogative.”

During the 2025 NFL regular season, Kelce notched 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games, averaging 11.2 yards per catch, according to research from the NFL. He also was named to his 11th consecutive Pro Bowl, although he opted not to participate.
