Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer news from icfootballnews that you guys may have missed featuring the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Robert Sanchez and Liam Delap…
Chelsea are reportedly in talks with midfielder Enzo Fernández about extending his stay at Chelsea F.C. and increasing his weekly wage, according to ICFootballNews sources. The discussions are understood to centre on a new contract that would not only lengthen Fernandez’s current deal but significantly improve his pay.
Sources close to CHELSEA say preliminary negotiations have already begun ahead of the summer transfer window. Chelsea have identified Fernandez, one of their standout performers since arriving from Benfica, as a cornerstone of their midfield and are keen to reward him accordingly.
Talks are still in the early stages, with both the club and the player’s representatives working to find terms that reflect his contributions this season.
Fernandez signed a long-term contract with Chelsea when he joined in January 2023 — a deal that currently runs until 2032 — but has increasingly become a focal point in the club’s engine room. His tactical versatility, ability to drive play forward, and knack for key contributions have marked him out as one of the most influential midfielders in the Premier League this term.
Despite links to European heavyweights like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in recent windows, the Argentine has made it clear through his representatives that he wants to remain in London and build on his progress.
Chelsea’s willingness to engage positively in contract talks comes as a boost for supporters, particularly given the club’s broader efforts to stabilise after a turbulent couple of seasons off the pitch.
Retaining top talent has emerged as a priority for the board and coaching staff, and a new deal for Fernandez — alongside talks over Moisés Caicedo’s terms — is viewed as central to that strategy.
Why Fernandez deserves a new deal
From a footballing perspective, Fernandez’s influence on CHELSEA’s performances cannot be overstated. He has developed into a midfielder capable of dictating games, linking defence and attack, and contributing goals and assists at vital moments.
His intelligence on and off the ball has provided tactical balance, making him invaluable to several of Chelsea’s key victories this season.
Beyond statistics, Fernandez’s professionalism, consistency, and leadership qualities have quickly seen him adopted as a fan favourite. He brings calmness under pressure and a maturity beyond his years — traits that add significant value in a young squad hungry for progress.
CHELSEA TOLD TO LET LIAM DELAP LEAVE
Pundit Pat Nevin has opened up and tipped Chelsea striker Liam Delap to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and possibly join Premier League rivals Everton.
Nevin, speaking this week about Chelsea’s evolving forward line, suggested that Delap may seek a fresh start away from Stamford Bridge after struggling to secure regular first-team minutes.
The 21-year-old striker, who joined CHELSEA after departing Ipswich, has spent much of the campaign sitting on the bench and waiting for his chances, as his 1 goal this season has simply not been good enough for a player of his quality.
Chelsea’s forward department has been in flux, with heavy competition for central attacking roles and a tactical reshuffle under the current coaching setup. Delap, while admired for his physicality, work rate and direct running, has found opportunities limited. Nevin believes that situation may not change significantly next season, prompting talk of a permanent exit.
Nevin wonders whether Delap might follow the lead of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who left Chelsea last summer and has subsequently flourished under the watchful eye of David Moyes: ‘Delap reminds me of Conor Gallagher and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Different types of players, but a similar situation,’ he added.
‘Great player, fine player, but you’re not in the right place. So Kiernan goes up to Everton, and it is great and it is exactly what he wants and needs.
‘Everton need a centre forward, don’t they? So, in my dream scenario, Liam strikes me as the right fit for someone like Everton.
‘Looking forward, I don’t think it would hurt Chelsea, I don’t think it would hurt Everton in any way, and I don’t think it would hurt Delap if he did move to Everton and then was allowed to flourish. I’m only saying that because it’s what I want, because I want Everton to do well.’
Would it be a wise move?
From Everton’s standpoint, the deal makes sense. Delap represents a calculated investment: young enough to develop, but experienced enough to contribute immediately. Moyes structured, high-intensity approach could play to his strengths, offering the consistent minutes he has lacked.
For Delap, the decision hinges on ambition versus opportunity. Remaining at CHELSEA would mean fighting for a breakthrough at an elite club, but with no guarantees. A switch to Everton could provide stability, responsibility and a clearer route to becoming a regular Premier League starter.
Ultimately, if regular football is the priority, a move north could be the smart step in his development — even if it means leaving the bright lights of Stamford Bridge behind.
CHELSEA TOLFD GET RID OF SANCHEZ
Former John Obi Mikel has urged Chelsea to sign a “top goalkeeper” this summer, warning that the club will find it “impossible” to win the Premier League title if Robert Sánchez remains their first-choice option.
The ex-Chelsea midfielder made the claim while discussing the club’s long-term ambitions, arguing that a team with genuine title aspirations must have a world-class presence between the posts. According to Mikel, improving the goalkeeping position should be a priority for the London side when the transfer window opens.
Sánchez joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 and has been used regularly as the club’s number one. However, his performances have occasionally come under scrutiny during a period in which Chelsea have struggled for consistency.
Mikel, who spent more than a decade at Stamford Bridge and won multiple major honours with the club, said he does not believe the Spanish goalkeeper provides the level required for a team hoping to challenge at the very top.
Reflecting on CHELSEA’s latest setback at Arsenal on The Obi Wan Podcast, a visibly irate Obi Mikel said: ‘If you asked me now if I see Chelsea winning the Premier League in the next two or three years… absolutely not! Absolutely not.
‘I don’t see us winning the title in the next two or three years, not to even talk about the goalkeeper that we have.
‘So many times, we’ve talked about it. And not just me, every f***ing pundit all around the f***ing world knows that, yes, he does make saves here and there and sometimes you forget about it.
‘But no, to win a title, to win Premier Leagues, you need a dependable goalkeeper.’
‘Look at the top two teams right now in the Premier League: Donnarumma, the saves that he makes, ridiculous saves… and David Raya, ARSENAL wouldn’t be where they are today without him, mark my words,’ the ex-Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder added.
‘We can talk about William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, all the cheat codes and the set-pieces, but David Raya, my word, the saves that he makes… absolutely brilliant, absolutely superb goalkeeper and he’s only getting better. Week in, week out I watch David Raya and he’s getter better and better, better and better.
‘You need a top, top goalkeeper to win titles and right now, CHELSEA Football Club, we do not have a top goalkeeper to go out there and compete to win the Premier League. We do not have that.’
‘I watched the game the other day and he was all over the f***ing place,’ the two-time Premier League winner explained.
‘He was giving the ball away, putting the team in dangerous situations, inviting pressure onto us, kicking the ball away, giving the ball to Arsenal. He was all over the gaff, all over the place!
‘I was watching it thinking, “How the hell are we going to win the Premier League like this with this goalkeeper?!”, it’s impossible.
‘During our time, we had one of the best, the most dependable goalkeepers in Petr Cech. Week in, week out you look at your goalkeeper and you know you’ve got a brilliant goalkeeper, a top goalkeeper who can make saves, win you games, win you titles.
‘We had it and it’s something we don’t have now.’
