Arne Slot has provided a positive injury update on Florian Wirtz ahead of the Wolves FA Cup clash on Friday evening.
His back problem has arrived at a frustrating time for both the player and Liverpool, with the playmaker forced to watch on from the sidelines during an important spell in the season.
The 22-year-old first picked up the issue in the warm‑up before the 1‑0 win away at Nottingham Forest on February 22, pulling out of the starting XI at the last moment. What was initially hoped to be a minor setback has dragged on, and Wirtz has since missed the home victory over West Ham United as well as the defeat at Wolves.
When he is unavailable, Liverpool can sometimes look a little more predictable in the final third, which is why supporters have been anxiously waiting for news on his recovery.
Now speaking in his pre-match press conference, Slot has revealed that Wirtz could feature for a little bit in the best-case scenario:
“He trained half and half with the team yesterday. He made the next step in rehab. Let’s see where he is today. He could be available for a few minutes tomorrow in the best scenario. Everyone else fine.”
The Dutchman also added that while we can expect changes, he does not have full fresh 11 to call upon for Friday night:
“We have a few but we don’t have 11. I always have options to bring in and players can bring in and let them start.”
“Not for the first time this season, three days after a game where we have dropped points, I’ve seen us do quite a lot this season, we have to be better than we were last time.”
