Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of transfer tussle for defender–Red Devils act first

Last month, Sport Witness covered claims on Manchester United’s interest in Juventus’ Pierre Kalulu. Liverpool are also emerging as a candidate for the defender.

The Red Devils went on a scouting mission to monitor the Frenchman. This happened during Juve’s Serie A clash against Inter Milan.

Kalulu was sent off in a controversial manner, as the Bianconeri lost the tie. As chaos ensued in Italy about Alessandro Bastoni’s dive to secure the red card, it was easy to forget how important Kalulu has been this season.

Despite that, the defender could be on his way out of Turin in the summer. Manchester United and Liverpool are in the mix to bring him to England.

Juve looking for tempting offers

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport reports on the Bianconeri’s plans for the summer. The Italian giants have big ideas that they want to execute and they might only go through if some sales are made.

It is believed that Kalulu is a candidate to leave, especially if the right offer is made.

His impressive season hasn’t gone unnoticed in the Premier League, with Manchester United and Liverpool ready to compete for him, with the newspaper noting a sale will ‘depend on offers’.

Kenan Yildiz and Weston McKennie are the only players who are unsellable. The rest of the Bianconeri squad have a price tag.

Kalulu unlikely to cost a big amount

Juve had paid a around €17m to sign Kalulu from Milan. It was an initial loan which later became permanent.

As of now, his contract in Turin runs out in the summer of 2029 and so far, there has been no progress over a renewal. Considering all of that, the ex-Lyon player is unlikely to cost a major amount.

Even if he has been quite impressive, handing Juve a capital profit should seal the deal. That is how fragile finances usually are in Serie A.

And he would be quite a handy signing for Manchester United and Liverpool. That is largely because of his ability to play across the backline and do an equally reliable job everywhere. On top of that, he’s only 25 and approaching his peak.
