Joao Pedro surpasses Matheus Cunha in one stat since last season after hat-trick vs Aston Villa

Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Matheus Cunha are two of the best Brazilian players in the Premier League.

However, there is no doubt who the more in-form attacker is right now, with Pedro scoring a hat-trick against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

In fact, with Vinicius Jr and Raphinha having quite inconsistent seasons, Pedro may be the best Brazilian forward outright at this moment in time.

Chelsea’s Joao Pedro has scored more Premier League goals than Manchester United’s Matheus Cunha since last season

Pedro’s hat-trick at Villa Park has taken him to 14 goals in the Premier League this term. There is now no reason why Pedro cannot score 20 goals before the campaign finishes.

His treble also means that he has scored 24 goals in the English top flight since the start of the previous season.

After being level with Cunha on 21 goals, Pedro has now gone in front of the United star and is the leading Brazilian goalscorer in the Premier League since the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign, as highlighted by WhoScored.

Pedro should now get a bit of a rest, with Chelsea taking on Wrexham Town in the FA Cup next. After that, they face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

It is a fixture that the 24-year-old has fond memories of after scoring against the French side in last summer’s Club World Cup final. Enzo Maresca is no longer in charge, but the good news for Pedro and Chelsea fans is that Liam Rosenior has beaten PSG before.

How Joao Pedro and Matheus Cunha compare this season

In the current campaign, Pedro has scored eight more goals than his compatriot Cunha, though he has played more minutes than him.

That being said, Pedro still scores more goals per 90 minutes than Cunha (0.58 to 0.28 via FotMob). As well as more goals, the former Brighton & Hove Albion man has also registered more assists than Cunha.

Pedro has five, while Cunha has two. All in all, it is fair to say that the former has been the better signing out of the two.
